On May 22nd Wokingham joined a growing number of councils pledging to be 100% carbon neutral by 2030. I am delighted that Wokingham Borough Council has chosen to take this bold step, and even more delighted to be chosen to lead this vital initiative as Executive Member for Climate Emergency.
Although this is a global issue, local actions matter. Wokingham Borough Council is already demonstrating that we take our environmental responsibilities seriously by declaring a Climate Emergency. In the coming weeks and months you will see a lot of initiatives coming from the council as well as a means for you to feed in your ideas, suggestions and priorities. I ask you all to take the time to send me any ideas you might have. I have set up a facebook group as a first step in sharing ideas. I welcome anyone from Wokingham Borough wanting to join. The group is called Wokingham Borough Environmental Ideas, please do join and start sharing.
This is an audacious challenge but one we must succeed at. I ask all residents, businesses, charities, schools and other organisations to lead by example, act now to fight climate change and be the change we want to see in others.
