Attention Residents of Norreys Ward, particularly those who live on Rose Street, Wokingham Borough Council wants to hear your views on a proposal to introduce the traffic management scheme shown on the attached plan in Rose Street near its junction with Broad Street. The proposal forms part of the Town Centre improvement works aimed at enhancing the street scene and improving accessibility for both pedestrians and vehicles. The existing traffic island which reduces the width of the carriageway will be removed and replaced with kerb buildouts on both sides of the road as shown on the attached plan.

This arrangement will retain the reduced carriageway width at the location with the effect of reducing traffic speeds to enable pedestrians cross safely. The key features of the scheme are,• The removal of the existing traffic island.• Introduction of kerb buildouts on both sides of the road.• Raising the section of carriageway between the buildouts and introducing dropped kerbs and tactile paving.• Introduction of priority controls and give way lines to manage the use of the single lane by the opposing traffic.• Amendment of existing waiting restrictions • Removal of the parking bay outside 11 Rose Street.
Please provide us with your views by either writing to us at the above address or by email to TM.Consultations@wokingham.gov.uk. Please send in your response by 30 November 2020. The Council would like to hear from as many residents and businesses as possible, so that everyone’s view can be taken into account.Feedback from this consultation will be used in conjunction with further investigations to develop a final design.
As someone who has almost been knocked over by a driver using the wrong side of the road at this crossing, I will definitely be supporting this new crossing.
