In spite of the lock down restrictions and the Covid crisis businesses still want to open in Wokingham. Today, Wokingham Borough Council announced three more business who are opening their doors in our regenerated town centre.
Wokingham town centre continues to demonstrate its credentials as a great place to do business, bucking the national trend as more new businesses sign up to open units in the town, with new independents Hamlet bistro, Peacock House Interiors, and the Vale Clinic, local podiatry specialists, becoming the latest regeneration tenants.
“These are three fantastic new businesses, who really fit with the vision we had for a town which offers people a great range of independents and national names.” said Cllr Charlotte Haitham Taylor, executive member for regeneration. “Each one of them brings something new to the town whilst also reflecting how the high street has changed over the years to become the place people go to socialise, access services, as well as to shop.
“Whilst we know that’s not possible at the moment due to lockdown, we very much believe it will recover and grow as restrictions lift and people can return when it’s safe to do so. Wokingham has everything going for itself as a great place to visit and spaces like Elms Field and Peach Place are already a real asset for the town and set to become more so as they can come into their own with entertainment and events.”
New bistro Hamlet, who will be opening in Peach Place, aims to create a place for everyone to come with a welcoming and warm environment where people can enjoy its vision to serve the very best of British food and produce as well as creating memorable experiences for guests. With a background in some of the country’s finest restaurants the team are sure to impress and bring something top class to the town.
Elms Field will see Peacock House Interiors opening with a fantastic range of homewares and goods picked out by the owners who have a real flare for beautiful objects and design. The new unit is set to become a showcase to support a wider internet business, allowing residents to come see items first hand whilst creating the home of their dreams.
The Vale Clinic, who already has a strong local customer base due to the excellent range of podiatry services they offer along with their very skilled professional staff, have also made the move to Elms Field. Their new unit on the corner of Elms Walk and Denmark Street will allow them to offer a fantastic location to support their customers as well as the room to grow their business in the coming years.
Other units also remain under offer with paperwork for several with lawyers and announcements set for later in the spring.
“It’s been an incredibly difficult period for all the town centre’s businesses” said Cllr Charlotte Haitham Taylor, executive member for regeneration. “But despite this Wokingham has continued to attract new businesses who feel that the town is on a great road to recovery and is the place they want to be trading in when restrictions begin to ease. It’s a real testament to how people view the town and something I think we should all be really proud of.”
